But Conley was able to cite Levitt with 35-year-old allegations because the clock on the statute stops ticking when an alleged perpetrator leaves the state. Although Levitt’s whereabouts in the years right after he left Maimonides, in 1977, are unclear, prosecutors say he has been living outside Massachusetts since the early 1980s.
…the perpetrator more often then not is more familiar with the legal loopholes then some of the defence lawyers taking their case.Often victims move far away from the country they lived in at the time (sound familiar?)which makes it even more complicated.

I understand your rage for the rabbi.I think one can replace judaism with any other religion or institution.Of course as always …the bigger the tabu the greater the secrecy…

the sad part as mentioned in some of the comments , that the offender gets away with probation,bail etc. even though the offender clearly destroyed the victims life the moment the crime took place.The majority of victims do not abuse other children but are going through life with unbearable guilt and pain , to the extent where many take their own life (even in old age)while the perpetrator quite often lives out his life as a “child loving” benefactor of a comunity.

I hope this story may impel more people to read about the seriousness of the issue of child sexual abuse by clergymen in Jewish communities… I suggest the best way is to read the book mentioned in the article, Tempest in the Temple: Jewish Communities & Child Sex Scandals, edited by Amy Neustein (Brandeis University Press, 2009). (Full disclosure: I am a contributor to the book.)

Unfortunately, the Levitt case does not stand alone.
