Libyan opposition forces say they took control of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi’s compound in the capital city of Tripoli.
Opposition sources said the fighters entered Bab al-Aziziyah compound through its western entrance on Tuesday.
“Our forces are surrounding Bab al-Azizyah. There is a fierce battle going on there. We are now controlling one of the gates, the western entrance,” a spokesman for the revolutionaries, Colonel Ahmed Omar Bani, told AFP.
According to some reports, the opposition forces have even captured Gaddafi’s headquarters after fierce fighting with Gaddafi loyalists.
The Libyan fighters swept into the heart of Libya’s capital city early on Monday, and seized control of much of Tripoli without facing resistance from regime forces.
Libya has been the scene of intense fighting between regime troops and fighters since a revolution seeking to topple Gaddafi began in mid-February.
