Amazon.com founder and CEO Jeff Bezos presents the company’s first smartphone, the Fire Phone, on June 18, 2014 in Seattle, Washington.

Daring to take on saber-toothed competition, retail colossus Amazon has introduced a smartphone with 3D capabilities.

The company’s CEO Jeff Bezos allowed the media to have an eyeful of the Fire, as the device has been named, at the company’s headquarters in Seattle on Wednesday.

The 4.7-inch device’s three-dimensional display features include depth perception in maps and pictures, and the ability to shift perspectives depending on how the user tilts the screen.

It also sports object and audio recognition feature Firefly, which allows the users to identify an object by taking a picture of it.

A promotional video, titled “Find out what these Amazon customers are talking about,” had featured people admiring something they were holding out of sight of the camera.

It showed users’ swaying the device from side to side, which has prompted rumors about its eye-tracking technology, said to be capable of creating 3D imagery viewable without the aid of special glasses. Comments included “it moved with me” and “it’s very real life and uncomparable to anything I’ve ever seen.”

The phone, which joins Amazon’s “Fire” lineup of tablets and streaming devices, will start at USD 199.99 for a 32-gigabyte storage version with a two-year contract on AT&T.
